Learn to move comfortably and safely through the backcountry with Treks and Tracks. In this 1-day course, experienced front-country skiers (intermediate or better on groomed runs) will learn the basics of choosing appropriate avalanche-safe terrain to skin up and ski down. Earn your turns! This class begins with an overview of major avalanche hazards and how to avoid them. Emphasis is placed selecting terrain that has an extremely low risk of avalanche hazards. Basic beacon, probe, shovel and buried survivor scenarios will be covered (beacon, probe, and shovel are not included but can easily be rented from one of our listed partners {I've got these for you}. This is NOT a replacement for an AIARE level 1 course, instead, this class prepares you to take an in-field AIARE Level 1 couIn addition to avalanche basics Treks and Tracks will teach you how to dress for the high output activity of skinning uphill (over 1,000 calories/hour), how to move through varied terrain (fresh powder, corn snow, moderate and steep inclines with direction changes) , how to deal with equipment failures or idiosyncrasies, how to transition quickly and effectively, and, most importantly, how to shred it on the downhill though a variety of conditions. The number one goal is safety but the number two goal is fun. And we will have tons of fun!rse with confidence and without embarrassment.
